The Scheme
BIIBAS, a wholly owned subsidiary of the BII, runs the Scheme under which pub operating companies can apply to have their codes of practice accredited as a clear and transparent declaration of the business relationship being offered between the landlord and lessee/tenant and also benchmarked against the criteria established by the current BBPA Code of Practice
Eligibility
Any Pub Company which publishes a code of practice may apply for Benchmarked Status.
How to Apply
A Pub Company wishing to apply for Benchmarked Status will be asked to submit a duly completed application form to the Scheme Secretariat along with a copy of the code of practice, together with the Fee. Further details are contained in the Scheme Rules and Regulations.
The Process
The Scheme Secretariat will examine the code of practice in the context of the Criteria to ensure that each topic set out in the Criteria is covered and meets the minimum standard adequately. Any inadequacies will be discussed with the Pub Company within 7 working days of receipt of the application.
When, in the opinion of the Scheme Secretariat, adequacy has been achieved, the code of practice will be submitted to the Benchmarking Committee (7 hard copies of the code will need to be submitted to BIIBAS at this stage)
Meeting the Benchmarking Committee
A meeting will be convened of the Benchmarking Committee where applications for accreditation will be considered. Representatives from the Pub Company making the application may be invited to attend all or part of any such meeting.
Advice
The Scheme Secretariat will provide an advisory service for Pub Companies in respect of drafting codes of practice and for Pub Companies making or considering making an application.
Monitoring Compliance
Where a lessee/tenant feels that the provisions of their Pub Company's code of practice have not been followed and it has not been possible to achieve a resolution through the Pub Company's internal dispute procedure the matter can be referred to BIIBAS.
